I believe the truth can be found somewhere between the extremes. It is being used a political bargaining chip right now.

There is in fact global warming, it has been advancing for millions of years. It is being affected by pollutants and every country contributes. It is being studied in great depth and we will hear more and more about it.

The Earth and it's ability to cycle pollution will reach a limit if unchecked. The ability for it to reverse this trend is unknown but I feel that there are other contributing factors as well. All living bodies have a life cycle, just like our bodies and that cycle can be cut short with poor diet.....hence, you feed the atmosphere too much of anything and it can upset the balance.

There was no ice age 500 years ago, however the last ice age was caused by a meteor which created a massive cloud of dust that spread over the planet which led to a major cooling down of the earth...

And I think the name of that movie is perfect, because it is so inconvenient for people to realise they are destroying the planet, they rather plead ignorance.

I think the last ice age happened by the cold waters from the big lakes in North America spilling into the ocean. It overwhelmed hot streams, destructured and stopped the water stream system and just began to freeze everything.

Anyway, those ice age sites really look like hoax sites.
And no need to be a famous economist to see more economical reasons not to believe in global warming than the opposite... !

Wtf are you talking about?? There was a thing called The Little Ice Age, Google it if you want. You will see it is real. Not to mention I saw this on the History Channel.

The point is there was no such thing as emission and aresol cans way back then and this happened. Thats why I think what they are saying now about global warming is bogus.

Youve just been mislead by the name, it doesnt mean that there was literally an ice age. It just brought very cold winters to parts of the world.Mainly the places that were already cold to start with.

This global warming is the result of man's activity and is completely artificial. Remember we're more than 6.5 billion of people living here and it would clearly make no sense to even considerate the idea that our presence and acts don't impact on the Earth ecological system.

People who are denying the ecological crisis we're in, are either CEOs (only concerned by short term profits, no matter what), politicians who lick CEOs' asses, or dumbass Hummers owners.

They were really concerned when this review showed that if nothing is done within the next decade, global warming will cost up to 6,800 billion of dollars to the world Economy. It will also force 200 million of people to migrate and some parts of planet Earth will be unlivable. Now that their walet is in danger, CEOs are now talking.

You know Karea, I read your 1st post of this thread when you just posted it, but I didn't answer in the first place because I thought: "Everybody's now aware of this matter, Karea won't have much replies". Obviously I was wrong.

This is such a strange thread. This is one of those issues that is TOO political to get unbiased science, in my opinion. Boy Scout is adamant, but saying there is no evidence to support global warming is wrong.

And as for the little ice age... there was a period called the Little Ice Age... I don't think anyone was asserting that there was an ice age during the dark ages. That's just retarded.

The fact remains that artifacts from civilaizations have been found under glaciers....does this mean that here are cycles that cause fluxuations in temp...I think so. Does it mean we should not be concerned about the Global effects? Of course not. We are in a cycle that is on the upswing in Global temps, this is on 700yr or so cycles,(as a brief study of global history will show) this upswing might be affected(I think it is) by CO2 etc emmisions. I also think we are in for a few hundred more years of increased temps. If history has anything to do with it.

I am not a scientist but it does not take a genius to read history from several different sources and weigh out the facts. Some sources will be skewed because of political wrangling, Al Gore is most assuredly politically motivated.

The fact that fossil fuels are a limited resource might help in that we will have to find altermatives, let's demand they are cleaner.

One thing I find disgusting is that it is difficult to find accurate data, it is usually skewed much like the news affiliates. They slant toward one political view or another. Facts should be facts but they are supported by statistics and statistical analysis is a science that is not exact and can be presented in ways that are confusing at best.

Some say the southern ice cap is thicker and global temps overall are lower now and over the last several years they are dropping. I can prove this theory one way or another, I have to either believe or dismiss reports. When I see reports generated from ANY political stance I question their accuracy and we can usually find the truth.....somewhere in the middle.

With this said I will not critcize any stance and would hope you all could respect others for their beliefs as well, I think this is way beyond a few facts to support or deny these theories. Bottom line is that we all need to be concerned with what we are doing to the earth. We also need to hold our politicians to the fire if they are not concerned and taking steps to make improvements.

The thing I find disgusting here in the states(maybe it is the same worldwide) is that politicians with posture and pander to special interests giving them lip service. Unfortunately time usually proves it was only lip service to shut up the loud groups and trade offs occur in favor of economics.
