I can relate to the whole "being too eager" bit. Of course, when it's on, the urge is to push even though holding back or making her chase is better (and harder.) Umm, about the Direct Intent...I don't know man. Maybe you did/do too much inappropriate kino off the bat ie: grabbing the girls face and saying "heyyy you're soo sexy" but not in a playful state. Whenever I have done Direct Intent, I have gotten a great response, even if the girl was taken/with friends/uninterested. But when I have done it, I say it deadpan. Then smile.
Careful, don't go overboard with it during the day... more for the night. Sometimes if you show direct intent but there's too much neediness for a good response coming through, it can send the wrong vibe. Playful... smiling... or, not caring about how she responds, not waiting for her reaction to it... it tends to hit far more effectively that way.
I prefer going direct myself but I've learned it's far more effective only if you get a bit of interest first then to give it back.
