Today, gentlemen, we are going over the top 5 bedroom essentials that every guy needs. You know getting a good night’s rest is the keystone to getting on your swagger.
Look, I know you’re killing it with the ladies but if there’s one thing that screws up your game, it’s letting your sleeping situation slip through the cracks.
Look, we spend one-third of our time in bed, so you want as much time to recharge as possible to reach your pure amazingness potential, and if you’re not getting that sleep, you are simply sabotaging and killing your productivity, not to mention your good looks. A lot of sleep equals slim and healthy.
Me personally, I get grumpy and I can’t concentrate and my creativity goes right out the window. Well, good news, gentlemen!
A solid siesta that is in your future because today I’m going to give you my 5 essential tools for getting a kickass sleep and leave you sleeping like a little baby.
Sleep Essential #1: Vibrating Alarm
The vibrating alarm. You want to pick a bedtime and a wakeup time and stick to them as closely as possible because your body craves consistency. Your circadian rhythm is a 24-hour cycle that functions best when it has a set routine, and sleeping in late on weekends for example throws off your circadian rhythm.
What I like to do is set an alarm for myself, but I don’t like to use my phone because it’s too much of a temptation. It’s too much of a distraction. I want to check my messages. I want to check my notifications. I’m looking at this bright screen. It’s waking me up, and I don’t like noisy alarms, the ones that go, “Beep! Beep Beep!” because (a) they’re not just pleasant to wake up to; I don’t like listening to them in the morning; and (b) they wake up the person sleeping next to you.
I like to use a portable vibrating alarm. You simply slip this bad boy under your pillow at night and in the morning, it will give you this gentle vibration through the pillows, which is a great solution if you have a girlfriend sleeping next to you and you don’t want to wake her up or you have roommates in the room, or you’re staying in a hostel. You don’t want to wake up the entire room of people.
Sleep Essential #2: Light Blocking Window Curtains
Light-blocking window curtains. You might be like, “Come on, Jesse! Everybody has got window curtains!” True enough, but how much light is passing through those curtains. Let me guess! You’ve got some paper-thin curtains, amigo, and all that sunlight passing through those curtains flooding your room with light in the early morning sends little signals to your brain that keeps you awake.
Well, light-blocking window liners are an amazing investment. You simply place these little bad boys behind your regular curtains and they’ll block 99 percent of the light, turning your room into a pitch-black bat cave, which is perfect for getting a little bit of shutoff, which brings us to bedroom essential #3
Sleep Essential #3: Plush Face Mask
Face mask, and not just any face mask. This is an extra-large fleece and silk light-blocking face mask of Marvel, making your room pitch-black dark, so you can sleep like a little baby.
Now here’s the trick to face mask, my friend. It’s going to feel weird at first. You might wake up in the middle of the night. It’s no longer on because you might swat it off your face while you’re sleeping because you’re not just used to it, but stick with it for a couple of weeks, make it a habit, and what it’s going to do is eliminate that last 1 percent of light that’s coming through your windows.
This is an accessory you don’t necessarily want to go real cheap. Invest $20, get a quality face mask that’s going to sit very comfortable and soft on your face. It’s an investment that will pay for years.
Sleep Essential #4: A Cool Room
Make sure that your room is cool. When we fall asleep, our bodies naturally cool down over time, and when your room is cool, your body doesn’t have to work as hard. When your body is not working as hard to get to that cooler state, you’re going to have a more natural and restorative sleep. In other words, as the temperature falls in your room, the quality of your sleep goes up.
See, you want to be shooting for 71 degrees Fahrenheit to 72 degrees Fahrenheit or even cooler if possible. Myself, I don’t sleep in any clothes, and I’ll even have a fan blowing on me.
Sleep Essential #5: Kindle Paperwhite
The Kindle Paperwhite eBook Reader. Now at night, my brain is racing all over the place with ideas and thoughts and concepts and that makes it hard to fall asleep. A little trick I’ve discovered is do a little bit of light reading before bed. It’s almost like a meditation. It just calms my mind down, helps me focus my thoughts, and stamps out all those little voices. Going into a fictional world of fantasy just eases the tension. It helps me relax.
Now I don’t recommend reading from a tablet or your phone, or a laptop computer. That bright screen is just going to wake up your brain and you’re going to have all this temptation to check your email, to check notifications, check social media, and even a physical paperback book, well you have to turn on the lights, flooding your brain with all this light-stimulation, not good either.
For me, the Kindle Paperwhite is the perfect device because I can turn out the lights, be in a pitch-black room with just enough backlight to be able to read the words, and at the same time all you can do on this device is read, so there is no potential distraction.
That, gentlemen, is my list of 5 bedroom essentials I feel every guy should have. You’re going to be more productive. You’re going to be better looking, and you’re simply going to get more done.
